A good tweet can inspire and prove quite useful. I loved this one from Kim Garst. It is one on which I had blogged before.
Kim Garst tweeted this… “#TWITTERTIPS Having a lot of followers is GREAT but the real trick is having followers that COMMUNICATE with YOU! #youcandosocial“. This is an idea that is near and dear to my heart.
In December 12 of 2011, I wrote the blog post entitled Twitter Followers Versus Twitter Listeners – What’s Better which spoke to the heart of Kim’s tweet. Here I explained why large follower numbers on Twitter was not enough for your business.
A business needs listeners; or as Kim put’s it, communicators. There is a real difference; especially if many of your Twitter followers are robots. Robots don’t listen or communicate well.
The real bang for you buck on Twitter is connecting with people who communicate and engage you back. I have never been able to do business with someone who is one sided in his conversation. With those people, it’s hard to get a word in; especially if they are not listening to you.
It’s good having a large Twitter account with real peeps who are engaging and conversing. That would be good. The more followers you have, the greater reach or influence you can establish. But it’s not going to happen with robots. It’s going to take real people.
So you only have a few followers on Twitter. No problem! It’s going to take a while to build a good Twitter account. You are looking for vibrate, productive and encouraging people. You find those gems one at a time. The key to your success is to add one great person at a time and begin conversing with them.
So what’s our walk away for today? Don’t be in rush to get Twitter followers. You want listeners. You get them one at a time and you develop a great connection with them over time. Now if you are Justin Beiber, well that’s a different sorry. All you have to do is show up. But for the rest of us, build it right; one step at a time. Don’t worry about numbers. Concern yourself with connecting with great people.
