Choosing a Twitter username is important for you and your business. It will define how you show up to others on the Twitterverse. Watch and learn how to choose a Twitter username that will help your business excel on Twitter.

You are allowed to use up to 15 letters, numbers and characters in your Twitter username. My Twitter username is @4JeffBrown. I changed it from @Alpha_Computer. There will only be a few characters that you can use, such as a hyphen or an underscore.

Here are some points to think about:

(1) The shorter the better. When you get retweeted, it leaves more room for the person who retweets it to add text.

(2) Where possible, try to get your own name. If you are going to set up a Twitter account for business, try to get the business name.

(3) Try to get your own personal name for use down the road. Once the Twitter name is gone, it is gone. You will have to come up with another version of your name.

(4) Nicknames make it harder for people to find you. Avoid them where possible if you want others to find you on Twitter.

Your choice of a Twitter username says a lot about you and what you are doing on Twitter. Make your choice a smart one.

Please let me know what you chose and let’s connect on Twitter. I am @4JeffBrown. See you on Twitter.
