Young entrepreneurs, like the ones I trained today at a Business School in Dartmouth, are key to the success of our economy. They are the foundational stones for successful businesses tomorrow. They will help create jobs and come up with new ideas to make places like Halifax, Truro, Amherst, Nova Scotia better.

Data is emerging that the Junior Achievement program is paving the way for success. Those who go through a Junior Achievement program are more likely to achieve success according to the stats. Young people need to be encouraged to look at creating their own business. After all, some people have the skills and grit to make it on their own as entrepreneurs.

As I shared with the students how to make social media work for business, I was impressed at the great potential in the room. There were several types of businesses represented in the room. I tried to paint a positive picture for business; but I also told them that business was not for the faint hearted. I encouraged them to take the path less traveled and not to look for the lazy way out of things. I am about smart actions that save time, but I am not for those who are constantly trying to get out of things by using shortcuts. These people might as well get jobs in that case.

What I liked about these young entrepreneurs was that no one had told them yet that it could not be done. They were open to fresh new ways of looking at things. I found this wonderful. I also wondered what they will create in the future.

So next time you see a young entrepreneur, make sure you give them a hug and encourage them onward. They will be heading for a bright new future I hope. One that still rewards people for good hard work ethics and grit.

As I left, I wished them well. I also wondered what it would have been like if I had started in business that their age.

So here’s to a great day of business for you. Let’s make a brighter future together 😀
