I still get asked almost daily about Twitter and what it is. Of all my social media tools that I use daily, Twitter is “Tops” as my UK friend Mark @MarkShaw would say.
So what is Twitter? One could think of Twitter as an application where you type in a 140 character post that goes out to all those people that are following you. One you think of it as a communication tool that one uses to send short messages to others; that’s either private or seen publicly. One could think of Twitter as a great tool to drive traffic to a web site or blog.
Whatever you think, Twitter is short and sweet at 140 characters. There’s no room for blah, blah, blah. Of all my social media tools, it’s the one I use the most and like the best.
So what do I use Twitter for? Here’s what I use Twitter for:
- Driving traffic to my web site and blog when I add new material
- Sharing links to great information that I think will be helpful to others
- Engaging others in brief conversations that are right to the point and tons of fun
- Keeping top of mind with my customers and potential new customers
- Feeding Google and other search engines so that I can show up in search engines better. (My Twitter account shows up first page Google for “Jeff Brown”)
- For gleaming information that is critical for my business
So you can see that Twitter is more than a toy for me. It is an essential tool for my business. I hope this helps you understand Twitter better.
