In business, buzz is what you are trying to create. The problem with buzz is that we need something to measure it. We may believe that people are talking about us more than they actually area.

The truth about business is that we have to generate some good word of mouth or buzz by others. We need people to tell their friends and so on and so on. This is the most effective way to market our business to others.

Yet we may not understand how well we are doing. We may perceive that we are doing better than we actually are. We may think that we are cornering that market with talk about us. In actuality, people maybe talking less about us than we think.

It is good to know how much people are talking about us, and what they are saying. I have been trying out a tool just to look into this matter. The people of Radian6 have allowed me to test drive the Radian6 platform to see what I can do with it. And I do feel a reality check coming on. I hear people tell me that they hear  my name everywhere. It’s time to see if that is true on the social media platforms.

Here are two windows from the Radian6 platform. Here is my reality check for Monday morning.

Radian6 Alpha Computer Cloud

Here is what we can decipher from the two windows:

  1. Of all the people I have included in my Radian6, I have 10.8% of all the conversations. I added the top guys in social media. No sense looking small.
  2. The word cloud to the right shows me the words that are being used in conversations around me and those that I have included in the search.

I see some good things happening right now. But world domination by Alpha Computer is not happening right at this moment. I am going to have to roll up my sleeves and work a little smarter.

So why am I showing you this? Shouldn’t I be keeping this under my hat? My main goal as a business is to help other businesses; even the people who are doing social media. I want this blog post to provide a reality check for my readers. I want to help them understand what they need to do to become a better business.

As the days go along, I will blog more about my experience with Radian6. I will include some videos as well.

One thing I know for sure is that I have my work cut out for me. I will have to work smarter in the days ahead. But since I have the great people of Radian6 behind me, I can only get better. And that’s great news for you too.

If you have any questions, please feel to ask as I take Radian6 out for a test drive and put the pedal to the metal 🙂
