You have made some great Twitter connections. It’s important to value them and keep them moving forward in a real genuine way.

I had a recent conversation with a friend on Twitter regarding social media connects. He had informed me that those I had connected with him, had not reconnected again after the main introduction. My friend is a business person and has a large Twitter following. This person is a great connector and promoter.

I became concerned that those that I connected to this person maybe missing out on a great opportunity. I know it’s the Holiday/Christmas season and people are busy. I just hate to see opportunities lost. I am a real connector as well, and I like to see others make great connections, that can bring them greater visibility and possible business.

So I ask you this question…”All those great Twitter connections, are you keeping up with them and moving them forward?” I mean this in a real genuine  way. You have made the great connection. What are you doing with it? And I know we cannot keep up with everyone on Twitter. But there are those connections, and you know what I mean, that really stand out.

I have been very excited to connect with my heroes on social media. But after all the sparkles and confetti have settled, I have to ask myself this question as well. These online relationships need development and time. I can hear you saying that you are a busy person and that you don’t have time for that. Well, if you are a business person, people are everything to your business. Relationships matter.

I work hard on spending time with my family and my friends. But I also work hard at developing my online friendships as well. They are as equally valuable as face to face relationships. They need to be developed as well. Social media counts in Halifax, Dartmouth, Toronto and elsewhere.

I love it when I finally get to meet a person from Twitter or Facebook face to face. From my experience, it has mostly been an extension of what has already transpired online. That’s the way it should be. I am happy to say that most are as nice to meet face to face as they are to converse with online. I value these connections and try not to take them for granted.

So you want to take advantage of your social media and make it work for your business. You are going to have to engage others and build online relationships. Now I am not talking about running away with some one you met online. I am talking about building healthy productive relationships. The kind of relationship that does not creep others out.

So please don’t take your online connections lightly. If you can develop an online relationship further, please do so. It can be great for both of your businesses.
