Hootsuite is a great tool to use to monitor your social media, especially your Twitter accounts. You can put the Hootsuite.com site on a separate screen, if you have a multiple monitor setup, while you use another monitor screen to do your day-to-day work. This will give you an easy way to monitor your social media throughout the day without having to flip back and forth from screen to screen. This is how I set my work station up.
Hootsuite also allows you to add search columns and Twitter Lists. This is one of my favorite options when I use Hootsuite to monitor my social media. Once these columns are set up in Hootsuite, the information is continually being pulled in without any effort on my part. All I have to do is go look. No more actively setting up the same searches over and over again.
Just imagine having all your mentions, your direct messages, your sent tweets and your Twitter news feed all in one screen. And what is more exciting is that you can interact with those tweets directly in Hootsuite.
Now I am not a fan of using Facebook and many other social networks in Hootsuite. I prefer to monitor my Facebook, for example, from my smart phone or Facebook.com. That’s just my personal preference. For me, Hootsuite takes Twitter to the next social media level. It really is my Grand central Twitter Station.
So how will you use Hootsuite and what will you do with it? I monitor my Twitter usernames as hashtags, for example. That way when someone mentions me using a hashtag instead of a “@” sign, I get to see it. This is just good brand management.
