I landed in Toronto early Tuesday morning and immediately I got to meet face to face some of the people I had connected with on social media. At the end of every social media connection, there should be a face to face as much as possible.
Scott Mills meet me at the Toronto airport and the day began. We went to several places where drive by shootings had taken the lives of several you males. After that, we went to a school that takes in from different neighborhoods; gang neighborhoods that is. I really saddened me to realize that at any time, anyone of these young kids could be gunned down on the way home.
I asked the young kids what they wanted me to share with the police executives in this morning’s social media training. I asked them also how many were bullied on Facebook. There were a lot more hands than I thought would be raised.
A press conference was also included before lunch time yesterday. I listened to families that were victims of crime tell their stories of how they lost their sons to drive by shooting. One father almost had me in tears. I could not imagine anything like that happening to my daughters.
When it was my time to speak, I shared about the Facebook “Leave A Tip” tab I had created for Crime stoppers. I shared how it worked and my hope that it would prevent many crimes from even happening.
After this, Scott and I meet with the Child Abuse Monument people. I had helped them with their Facebook Page and some social media strategy. I also met up with Rob Cairns there. I was great to meet everyone over a meal. This enabled me to deepened my relationships with super people. I loved having time to chat with Rob face to face. For months we were Skyping on a very regular basis.
Now it’s time to deliver the social media workshop to police executives. Wish me well and have a great day yourself.
