Social media is a great way to drive traffic to your website and your other web assets you use for business. But how do you get people to actually click on those links? Here’s some social media wisdom to help you and my Halifax Social Media workshop participants gain the knowledge and skills they need to make this happen.
Now if we could just get those people to click those links. How do we do it?
One of the key things to focus on is writing good headlines around the link you are sharing. Your text should encourage people to click the link. Now I am not talking about deception stuff, like “Click here to get rich”, for example. But your headline should tell them what they are about to encounter. You need to sell the value of where you are taking them. What’s in it for them if they go there?
People are so rushed and feel that they only have a short period of time to take things it. You need to convince them that you are offering value. That they will learn something or gain a skill that they did not have before.
I like to sandwich my links with text. I hope to have the link in the first 1/3 of the post if I can. It seems that I get more clicks when the link is not at the tail end of the post. So it now becomes an act of creative writing. To do well and get people to click the link, you have to learn how to write well. So before you ever post what you have written, take a look at the post and see if it compelling. Would you click the link if you saw it? If there is any hesitation, re-write what you have written.
Here’s an example of what I try to achieve when I write my posts. Still working on getting better:

Make sure you have a call to action or present a benefit for clicking the list. Using numbers is good. For example, “Top 10 benefits of such and such”. I trust you understand. The number 5 and 10 seem to work the best.
So in summary, how do you make your links more clickable? You give them a lot of thought before you kick them out. Show people the benefit of where they are going in strong text headlines.
And make show to think about the keywords you will use. These words determine how you will show up in search. Be smart with he words you use.
So here’s to a great day in business for you. I am cheering you onward 😀
