This past Monday I started an experiment using social media and a blog. I wanted to see how many more first page listings I could get on Google for #Socialmedia #Training #Halifax.
I wanted to prove that social media could affect Google search results. So here is where I started on first page Google for long-tail keywords this past Monday:
- “Social media training Dartmouth” – 4 results first page,
- “Social media training Halifax” – 2 results first page,
- “Social media Dartmouth” – 3 results first page,
- “Social media Halifax” – 1 result first page,
- “Social media training Nova Scotia” – 1 result first page,
- “Social media Nova Scotia” – 1 result first page.
The very next day I saw the blog post I had written entitled: “The Art Of UnLearning – #SocialMedia #Training #Halifax“. It first showed up under a search for “social media Halifax”; where it gave me 2 results for first page. I further blogged about it on Tuesday in a blog post entitled: Social Media Affects Google Search Results – #Socialmedia #Halifax. In one day I had seen good results.
The question for me was this: “Can I see more first page Google results?” The very next day there were no new listings for any of my long-tail search words. I thought to myself, after I analyzed what I did, that this might take a little longer to produce results.
As I was teaching a social media class in Elmsdale this morning, I had a chance to talk about search and business. And you can guess what came next. When I cleared my cache to get a clear search, I was pleasantly surprised to be rewarded with 2 new first page listings for the search words “social media training Halifax” So here is how the results look so far as of Thursday:
- “Social media training Dartmouth” – 4 results first page,
- “Social media training Halifax” – 4 results first page,
- “Social media Dartmouth” – 3 results first page,
- “Social media Halifax” – 1 result first page,
- “Social media training Nova Scotia” – 2 result first page,
- “Social media Nova Scotia” – 1 result first page.
The end result is 3 new first page Google listings within 72 hours. The only thing I wonder now is how many listings I can get on first page Google. This type of learning will help my business clients do better. If I cannot make it first page Google, I cannot help others do it.
Now it’s time to push Google search even further. It’s time to “UnLearn” what I know and embrace new skills to “Go boldly where others have not gone” – a William Shatnerism that I have always wanted to say. I know there are a lot of great people out there doing great work also. I am not the only one. But what I wonder is this…with “I can’t” not in my vocabulary, what can I do with…”I can”? I can hear Randy Gage @Randy_Gage and Dave Carpenter @Dave_Carpenter encouraging me on. Let’s learn some more so I can help you as well.
