You are new to social media and you are trying to figure out what to do next. You think that it’s all new and you are going to have to reinvent the wheel to make it work. That’s where you could be very wrong.
To help my clients understand what they should be doing on social media, I ask them what is working for them right now. I ask them to tell me about the things that they are doing outside social media that are currently working. We write those things down. We also talk about the things that are not working. Then I ask them the question…”Do you want to confuse your customers?” It’s here that I bust their bubble.
Businesses do not usually need to make up new marketing strategies just for social media. They need to first look at what is working for them, and then see if they can duplicate it on social media. After all, why confuse your customers with something new that does not reflect what your business is about. Your brand offline should reflect your brand on social media. Your message should remain the same. If you can move what you are doing offline to social media, your customers will recognize you and feel more comfortable with you in the new realm of social media.
There will be time to try new things after a while. So when you go on social media, why would you start off in a place that your customer may not recognize you. If they are used to seeing you in a certain way, and it is working for you, why change? Don’t be fooled into thinking that you have to reinvent the wheel when you go to social media. Take a look at what you are doing and try to move that over to social media. If then, it does not work, adjust your strategy.
