On Twitter, the people who you connect with matter more than all the links in China. People have to be your main focus to succeed. Information is secondary.
There are lots of links posted on Twitter. There is no shortage of great information. But the greatest gold that can be found on Twitter is the people whom you connect with.
After all, links cannot refer your business as well as your friends. People make the best advocates and referrers of what you do. Now, I am not saying that you should stop sharing links. What I am saying is that you should always make people your top priority.
Social media requires a social presence. I always look at those who have been following me. I look to connect with those who value conversations and others. These are the ones I look forward to getting to know.
When people are one way broadcasting, it’s hard to do business with them. It’s hard to make a real connection with them. I like information, but I appreciate conversations more.
So what’s our walk away for this Monday morning? Please make sure you make an honest attempt to reach out to people today. Try to engage 2 to 3 people today in conversations.
Links are good, but they are not the all in all. Connecting with others is key to setting up a referral network. People matter. Make your Twitter account dynamic by reaching out to others first. That’s the real gold.
that is certainly true, getting a real follower fanbase is almost impossible if you start from scratch
@twitterhow I am building @AlphaSMInc from scratch to demo in front of my clients and my programs. It’s going to take a lot of connecting to make it go. Remember when you started from scratch? 🙂
