There are many people on Twitter that I could be following. It’s so for the rest of the social media applications. So why should I follow you?
I first started off my social media efforts believing that I should not call myself an “Expert” or a “Guru”. By according to the research that Dan Zarrella completed for HubSpot, you have a greater chance of being followed by others if you identify your authority. Give them a reason to follow you. What are you really good at? People are looking to follow experts and pioneers in their industry.
Now I see that I have to give people a reason to follow me. I have to let people see how great I am without making it sound like a whole lot of cow poop. You have to do the same. You need to be brave and tell people what you are really good at. Give them a reason to want to follow you.
Here is some content for my Silver Level members. It’s free, but you have to ask to become a member. Use the Contact form to let me know that you want to be included.

This week I want you to look long and hard at your Twitter bio. Is there anything there to tell people that you are really good at something? Is there any reason for them to want to follow you? Well, go and take a look. I’ll be right here waiting for you to come back. Here is my bio for you to look at.
So what did you find? Is your bio the same old same old that everyone else is sharing? I want you to write down on a paper right now all the things you are good at. Once you have done this, write down what this says about you. Are you an expert in your area? Do you know things that others do not?
In your Twitter bio, you have 160 characters to make your claim to fame. What will you now write take will encourage others to follow you. If you will identify yourself authoritatively to others, the chances are that more people will follow you according to Dan Zarrella’s research for HubSpot. The stats say this. So go and get this done today. Make it good and you will be one step closer to building greater visibility and gaining better results with your social media.
As I look at my Twitter bio, I see I need to declare myself with greater authority. Go check out my @Alpha_Computer Twitter account to see my changes. Make your account awesome. You have worked hard to get where you are at. Let your followers know this.

Great post Jeff. I look at bios all the time. The real key is not why I should follow you but should I engage with you and will you engage back. Followers mean nothing unless engagement comes with them.
@Robcairns Good add Rob…”will you engage back”. More meat to chew on. Thanks.
