There are lots of social media accounts that interact with others, and lots that don’t interact with others. Some just want to get their stuff onto their social networks and leave. If people are not interacting with others, can they be really missing out on great opportunities?

The truth is that many people don’t want to interact with others. Maybe they feel they don’t have the time to do it. Or maybe they just don’t like people. Regardless of the reason, they simply post and run away to what ever they feel they have to do to make money.

I posted this social media tip on Twitter awhile ago after I shared this with my Halifax social media program participants:

One thing I have learned from being in business since 2007 is this… “The core of business is all about people“. People want to be acknowledged, and they want to feel that their efforts do matter.

I see opportunity when someone comments or likes a post. I do not want to miss out on a chance to acknowledge their action. I hope you feel the same way as well.

We have heard it said that…. “People like to do business with people they like!” When we acknowledge the action of others around us, we get a chance to create some LIKE towards us and our business.

Another benefit that many do not consider is this… Many social networks look for interactions around posts so that they can assign a ranking value to that post and account. The more interactions a post gets, the better off it will be in news feeds and such. Social networks want to display the best content possible and please people. Post interactions can help social networks determine post value.

To sum it up, there are a couple of important considerations for acknowledging others when they interact with our posts:

  1. It makes those that interact with our stuff feel better and,
  2. It helps increase our post visibility in news feeds when our content gets more interactions.

Let’s not be included in the group that simply posts and runs. Let’s be included in the number that builds community and does well in new feeds.

So here’s to a great day of business for you. And don’t forget to interact with this post by sharing it. Thank you in advance.
