This past Friday I was in a communication workshop. We discussed the Way of the Goose. Geese encourage their leader at the front of the “V” formation by honking. The workshop facilitator, who was a principal that the time that this started, described how they would honk when someone was about to go write an exam, go for a job interview or do something that required encouragement. The students would “Honk” that person along.

It occurred to me that this would be a great thing to do on Twitter. Twitter could even be a better place if we would encourage others along as they lead, so to speak, as the goose does in the “V’ formation. Encouragement is a great motivator for others. So why not tweet encouragement with the #twitterhonk hash tag along with a word of encouragement.

Here is a couple of examples:

#twitterhonk-1#twitterhonk-2

And it probably is not a bad idea. Mari Smith likes it:

#twitterhonk-3Mari Smith is a great encourager. There are so many people who are great encouragers; people like Terry Crosby, Rob Cairns, Mark Shaw. The list could go on and on. One of the things that we can do on Twitter is encourage others onward. Maybe the #twitterhonk will catch on. One thing for sure, we can all use more encouragement.
