I think of that phrase “What’s in your wallet” from the TV commercial. You know the one with the vikings on it. They are trying to get you to think about what your credit card is doing for you lately.
For me I get thinking about what I have been feeding Google lately. Every now and then, you have to look back at what you have been doing with your social media. What kind of results are you getting from it?
If you do not look back and analyze what you are doing, you may continue ahead and waste your time. If it is not working now, there is a good chance it will not work in the future.
For example, I have been blogging everyday of the work week since the New Year. This really takes a lot of time and energy on my part. My wife would rather I spend more time with her. This is the part where I tell you I am working on my “Work-Life Balance”.
As a small business owner, time is very dear to me and I am very careful to make the best use of it. So looking back to see if things are working is a good idea. Do a Google search and see what comes up for you. Are you showing up for what you want to show up for? Twylah, for example, shows me by Twitter results: http://www.twylah.com/Alpha_Computer I can see what I have been tweeting about over time. This stuff makes its way to Google.
We have heard the phrase…”You are what you eat!” Let’s take that a step further…”We show up in search engine results by what we feed Google!”
So my challenge to you and I is this, to look back at what we have been doing and see if it is producing good results. We must be like a rudder on a ship, constantly changing to keep to a course that will bring us where we need to go.
