I go into a certain chain store a lot. I generally buy a lot of software and toner for my laser printer there. I know the people there by name. We often talk about what is new and what products are coming in the near future. Social media has always a hot topic to discuss.

One day I had a chance to met the head Canadian guy for the chain store. It was awesome talking with him. I even got to show him the benefits of using Foursquare for the business chain. Business is fun when you get to share it with those around you.

Last week as I was in for another toner for the laser printer, one of the head managers pulled me aside and told me that they were going to help me out with a certain tech gadget yet to be released. I had earlier said that I would promote it for them just for the fun of it. Now it looks like something is going to happen. Cool beans I say. All the social media influence I am building in my business is being recognized. I am seeing the benefit of all those long hours on my laptop and my Blackberry. The coffee shop connects are also paying off too.

What’s really cool is that I am seeing those around me benefiting as well. I am seeing real estate agents getting leads for homes they are selling. I am seeing businesses get the visibility they need to do more business. I love it when a plan comes together. It brings me pure joy to see businesses doing better because they are understanding and using social media more effectively.

Now the benefits of social media are different for everyone. Not everyone is looking for the same result. But there are benefits. Businesses are starting to see awesome things happening for them. It may take a little time to build momentum, but it is happening. If you are just starting off in your business with social media, be patient and push ahead. The rewards are there. When I get that tech gadget, I will show you.
