This has been a great week for businesses being stupid with their social media. From Loblaws to American Apparel, the gaffs keep on coming. When will people learn to share and post responsibly?
Here’s what I am talking about:
- The private label of Loblaw (TSX:L), posted Tuesday: “What’s scarier? Hurricane #Sandy or a beverage with marshmallow eyeballs?” – Winnipeg Free Press
- American Apparel – “The ad, which tells viewers to “Just Enter SANDYSALE at Checkout,” apparently targets online shoppers who are staying indoors to seek refuge from the storm. American Apparel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.” – Mashable
It is important that you think before you post. What are the consequences of what you are about to do? You social media effort for your business could quickly look like the Titanic. Be smart.
