Scott Mills Social Media Guy

I had the change to connect with Scott Mills last Summer when we spoke at the Crime Stoppers International Training Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ever since then, we have stay connected on social media. Recently I had the privilege of speaking with him in Toronto at a social media workshop.

I have met many social media friends over coffee, and Scott Mills certainly stands out from the crowd. What’s different about Scott is this…his social media efforts always end up with a face to face in the community with community members. While others may be building their social media around high level social media personalities, Scott is connecting with people in the community who need to have their voices heard.

When Scott is not on duty, he is connecting with young people at BMX events. He is a real solid role model for youth. Scott also helps young people use graffiti to build community and not deface it.

Scott took me down into the community and I had a chance to connect with the people first hand. Scott really is a valuable part of the Toronto community. People recognize him as someone who cares. Scott connects with everyone.

From where I stand, Scott is a real credit to the Toronto Police Service. Not only is he great on social media, but he puts his feet down where many would fail to tread.

I like the way Scott does social media too. He is always in one conversation or another. It’s people like Scott that will help bridge the gap between the community and the police service. Social media should always find its way off of the computer and into the community. Scott is a great example for others to follow.

So here’s to Scott Mills of the Toronto Police Service. A great spokes person and a great friend.
