I was at a Women in Business Lunch and Learn Tuesday and I overheard in a conversation that a notable business was getting some good old ATV loving. She was going to be featured on the TV news. As I listened, I found out that the local newspaper was not going to do an interview or mention her business at this time. This caused me to wonder what my local paper was thinking. It makes me wonder about news papers in general. How to they determine what is news?
At first they were interested and then (taken off Facebook) …
Everyone was getting excited about seeing a local business featured and promoted. And then the wet blanket. Maybe there was a story more pressing. In all fairness, maybe it is timing. I just cannot imagine why. In the end, the local news decided not to go with it.
I personally believe that a local business getting good TV attention is a news worthy event. I know Wanda personally, and she is doing some awesome things with her designs. Her designs could even end up on Gene Simmon’s wife Sharon Tweed. I know that some of Wanda’s stuff would make Gene smile, to say the least. Just in case you are wondering, here’s a link to the Annabelle Design Apparel website.
I find Twitter and Facebook better for acknowledging accomplishments of others and making news in the process. Social media seems to better means of recognizing news as it happens. If there has ever been a time for news papers to press hard ahead to report the news, today is the day. If they do not, they will be left in the dust of the furnace as fire starter.
My question to news papers is this…”What does it take to make the news in black and white?”
So for all of those on the Interent, here’s the headlines and story…
Local Clothing Designer Gets Featured On ATV News
“Wanda MacInness, of Annabelle Design Apparel, is a designer getting notice with her clothing lines. She is an up and coming designer. She has been featured in fashion shows in Nova Scotia. You will see her designs featured in your area soon.”
So if the local news will not highlight this business, I will. It’s no problem to promote a great business doing awesome things. So keep your eyes open for Annabelle Design Apparel. I guess you and I will end up being the real reporters of news.
