Wikipedia states about QR Codes: “Although initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR codes are now used in a much broader context, including both commercial tracking applications and convenience-oriented applications aimed at mobile phone users (known as mobile tagging). QR codes can be used to display text to the user, to add a vCard contact to the user’s device, to open a URI or to compose an email or text message. I recently placed a QR on the home page of my Alpha Computer Training and Consulting web site. What is great about this is that a mobile phone user can scan the QR code on the web page and get my contact information, or any information, that I want them to have. It is not hard to make one either.

The QR code application is turned on and the box with the black and white shapes above is scanned. When successful scanning is completed, whatever you want displayed on the mobile phone appears. In the above example, my contact information appears. I have made hyperlinks to my web sites and other information.

How did I do this? Here is how it is done:

  1. Go to http://uqr.me/ and sign up to create a QR code
  2. Click on Virtual ID link in upper right section on page
  3. Setup your personal account settings
  4. Look for Edit My QRlink or Change My QRlink
  5. Add information into the text area.
  6. Save your changes as required.

Note that there are templates to help you start off. You can add your image. You can make hyperlinks as well. So go ahead and make your QR code.

Now it is time to put it on a web site:

  1. Select Download my QR
  2. Select jpg option for web site.
  3. It should have downloaded to your Downloads section or where ever you download your files from the Internet. It is ready to be used as a jpg image on a web site.
