As I write this blog post from my spare laptop, I am uniquely aware that our computers and other hardware devices can let us down. My Toshiba laptop is at the repair shop having a check over to see why the USB ports are causing trouble. I always knew it was only a matter of time, not if.
Whether you are a social media trainer, a computer trainer, a professional speaker or any other profession that relies on a computer, you computer can let you down. The only real question is…”Where you prepared?” I have things backed up. A lot of what I do is online these days.
I smirked as I saw Susan Sweeney on Facebook talk about her PC letting her down yesterday. Susan is awesome and she inspires me to push forward. Our conversation from Thursday morning had greater significance today. As a matter of fact, she just bought a Mac. And what happens later that Thursday morning? My laptop decided it did not want to play ball and acted up.
So on this Friday, please take a look at your stuff. Can you survive a computer crash or any other computer issue? You need to prepare for this. Make sure you have back ups in place. And if you need another computer, make sure you can gain access to one quickly.
Today’s story for me could have been a sad one. But thankfully, I have great friends online who are always giving me great advice and help all along the way. Think of this post as a friendly reminder to check your situation out. Be prepared.
@Emmi134 I have been backing up on external drives for years. Now I am using an online backup – Jungle Disk. A backup needs to be offsite as well. Thanks for the comment. ~Jeff
