Would you like to know how you can make your efforts on Twitter better? What simple steps could you embrace that would make a world of difference?
If you study people on Twitter that are doing a really good job and are gaining a great deal of attention, you will see that they are all doing the same things. Let’s take a look at what they are doing.
They are replying a lot to those in their Twitter network
A tool I like to use to evaluate how a person tweets – their Twitter style – is twtrland.com. I can visit any person’s Twitter account and see how they run it. I can see their reply rate, their plain tweets, their retweet rate and so much more.
I can see, for example, that this Twitter user spends most of his time replying to others; to the rate of 69.7% (Red). The next thing that they are doing is “Plain Tweets”; to the tune of 15.4% (Blue).
As I examine other big name Twitter accounts like @ChrisBrogan, @unmarketing, @MarkShaw and @MariSmith, they are all doing the same thing; replying a lot to their followers. Go examine some of the big names you associate with social media and see their Twitter style.
They tweet regularly throughout the day
2 or 3 tweets a day is not going to cut it if you want to be successful on Twitter; in the way that they are successful. You have to be present throughout the day so others can see you. Just because you get up early and throw a few tweets out before work does not mean that others will see them. They may find them in search, but your tweets should be spread out throughout the day.
Here’s a look at @MariSmith’s tweeting pattern for you to consider:
Mari @MariSmith tweets about 35 times per day. Scott Stratten @unmarketing tweets about 58 times per day. Mark Shaw @MarkShaw tweets about 37 times per day. I tweet about 16 times per day. My good friend Rob @RobCairns tweets 76 times for day. He’s at 15,000 followers now. Looks like I need to tweet more.
And when I say I need to tweet more, remember what these people are doing most of? Replies! I need to reply more to my network. I need to be more engaging than ever before.
Summary
Two things that can help you effort on Twitter are:
- Make more of your Twitter efforts a “Reply”
- Tweet more by replying more; which gives you a better presence on Twitter. This will help you say top of mind with others.
