Of all the social media tools that are available for business to use, I find Twitter the one that gets business stumped the most.

Twitter birdIt’s a box where you can type up to 140 characters and spaces. But do you think that many feel comfortable putting anything in there?

Many of my clients have been waiting for me to tell them what to put in the Twitter message box. For some reason, they have been scared to just go ahead. Maybe they just did not want to make a mistake. This seemed to be the main reason.

As we went about the training day, I showed them a few suggestions:

  1. Maybe a link to information that they personally found helpful
  2. Maybe a burning question that they wanted to throw out for an answer
  3. Maybe a quote that they found helpful in their life
  4. Maybe a picture or a video that they wanted to share

Many businesses today do not feel that they have the ability to start safely posting on Twitter on their own. They feel that they need some coaching on what to put on Twitter. Who would ever have imagined that 140 characters could be so difficult? I guess the shorter you have to write, the harder it is to come up with material.

As I got the businesses, I was training with, to talk about what they could put on Twitter, they started to understand. As we looked further, they came to understand that they could use Twitter for their business. After a while, any hesitation they had was gone, and they had now becoming tweeting machines.

As I trainer, I see that Twitter can take a while to understand. When when understanding comes, so does proficiency. So if you are a trainer, take the time to help business understand. If you are a business and you don’t get Twitter, you are not alone. Please get some coaching to get started using Twitter.
