Messing with your Twitter account can backfire on you. @ChrisBrogan went with deleting all his followers & re-following again. I changed my Twitter username for branding purposes.

After seeing Chris Brogan’s “unfollow” experiment in full progress, I knew it was time for the change. Chris went ahead and deleted all his Twitter followers. He’s trying to get rid of the spammers. Now he’s connecting with the real people. I tweeted Chris and he seems to be OK. That’s good. Others have tried unfollowing everyone to their determent. People get real upset when you dump them on Twitter; or Facebook for that fact.

New @4JeffBrown Twitter Username

For me, I knew I needed to move away from the @Alpha_Computer username to a name with “Jeff Brown” in it. I tweeted with Eric @kabaimand and Kelly Kim @Twylah over a possible name change. They were awesome. We finally decided on @4JeffBrown. Kelly was good at helping me decide on what to finally go with. Eric helped me reset my Twylah web site.

In case you are wondering, Twylah is like a blog of all your tweets. It is very helpful for people on Twitter. They can see what you tweet about. You can also post great content from there. Eric Kim has really put together a great application. I recommend Twylah highly.

What became of @Alpha_Computer? Well, I switched that over to another Twitter account. Mark Shaw @MarkShaw advised me to do this so that one one else could camp on all my hard work. I still hae control of the @Alpha_Computer brand.

So why did I change my Twitter name in the first place? It’s all about my Twitter brand. People want to see who I am when they are considering connecting and engaging with me. I am also in the process of incorporating. This step will help in the process.

And this who process could not have been as smooth sailing without my Twitter friends. To all my Twitter friends, I want to say a great big thank you. Special thanks to Les @lestergillis, Terri @tdawn414, Chris @ChrisVoss, Meetu @meetusinghal; Jenn @1awesomemama; Roy @RoyAtkinson and the rest of you. You know who you are.

A great big thank you to Mark Shaw, Chris Brogan and Eric & Kelly Kim for helping me make this a smooth process.

So I survived and so did Chris Brogan. Thank you all for your patience and your kindness. Have a great weekend.
