I have trained a lot of businesses in social media over the last 4 years. One of the true traits of success I have noticed is commitment. Without commitment, one will fail.

I understand that not everyone will see the value of social media training for their business right away. For some, it takes a while before the “penny drops” and they “Get It”. But everyone needs to understand the value of commitment when it comes to social media for business. Commitment is key to almost everything in business as well.

One of the things I explain to my clients is that it can take time to build momentum using social media; unless you are Justin Beiber. And then, it pretty much happens over night for Justin. Can’t you hear the girls screaming right now 🙂

Along the social media highway, there can be many times of doubt and frustration. These have to be handled with commitment. As a business, you should not be a stranger to commitment. After all, you do show up for work on a regular basis; don’t you?. And I bet your business was not a going concern from day one. Neither will your social media efforts be. It’s going to take some time to get rolling.

So before you begin to use social media or you are having second thoughts, remember that social media is going to require a commitment; a fairly regular commitment I might add.

Commitment separates those that make social media work from those who cannot seem to make anything happen. There are other factors for success as well; but commitment is one of the pillars. So if you cannot make a regular commitment to social media, you might want to avoid using social media all together.

Now I am not trying to discourage anyone from using social media. I just want you to count the cost before you go plowing ahead. Please make sure you make an informed decision about social media. Social media is work and it does take some time.

But if you do commit to doing social media on a regular basis, you can expect to see good results over time; providing you are smart about what you do. You will need a plan. As you follow your plan, you will see more success day by day. Social media will be your 2 way communication line to your customer. And that will be a beautiful thing. But first comes the work and the commitment.

So what’s our walk-a-way for today? Social media requires work and continual commitment. If you have dropped the ball, pick it up again. Try to be smarter this time around. If you have questions, make sure you ask. After all, we are all in this together. To all my friends in Halifax and Dartmouth, you can do it. I am cheering you onward.
