Making time for social media in your all ready busy schedule may seem like a daunting task. If you will do it, you will help your nonprofit organization.

I have worked with several nonprofits as a volunteer and board member throughout the years. I understand that time is a precious commodity that never seems to be enough of. There’s always more to do and so few to lend a hand with those many tasks that need to be done. What I have discovered over the years is that it’s the few that does the work of the many.

Now they want to add social media to your already busy schedule. Social media is going to take some time and energy. I do not want to misled you into thinking that it’s easy and simple to run. When ever there are people involved, and social media involves people, there’s work in the communication part.

It there a way to make it easier? There sure is. Running your social media smartly with social media tools and having a social  media policy will greatly help your efforts. It’s nice to have a policy so that you know the confines of what you have to work in. It’s great to know how to use the tools of social media so that you can save time and not duplicate processes unnecessarily.

But one of the key things for your social media efforts will be having a great understanding of why you are doing social media in the first place. Clear goals and an endpoint direction will greatly assist you in staying on the right course. There are so many things that you get involved in. You need to align all you are doing as it relates to the goals you have set and the end point direction.

In summary, social media for nonprofits is going to take work. You can be smart in how you do it to save time. Make sure you understand where you are going and what you want to accomplish with social media. It can be a powerful force for your non-profit when used wisely.
