You don’t have to be famous to make a mistake on social media. Even the regular Joe’s can make them. When you do, admit it and fix it. Then move on.

The bad news is the social media “Expert” died last week and did not share the secrets and knowledge. The good news is that we are all in the same place; trying to figure out what the “Expert” failed to tell us.

We will make mistakes on social media. When someone let’s us know, or we find out by other means, we had better not run and hide from that mistake. The course of action is this…”Admit the mistake, fix it and move on.” Make sure you thank the person who gave you a heads up. Just think, there are worse ways to find out you made a mistake.

Mistakes and failures are part of moving forward towards success. We don’t mean to make them, but despite our best efforts, “stuff happens”.

So don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You will make them. When you push ahead hard, it can happen. Don’t continue to think about the mistake and be paralyzed by it either.

Let me share a story from my military days… An officer came to me an ordered me to do such and such. I obeyed and did such and such. Now my Sargent saw this and reamed me out big time for not going through him first. He was nose to nose with me screaming. It was not pretty. As you can imagine, I was pretty shaken up over that. A buddy came up and put it this way…”Don’t take it to heart. Just remember what you did wrong and don’t do it again”. He also encouraged me not to take it personally.

So here’s my advice to you when you mess up on social media…”Remember what you did wrong and don’t do it again”. But don’t let it drag you down. Keep moving forward. Admit your mistake and correct it. Peeps know that you are human. We all make mistakes. They will understand.

Here’s the walk away for today: the Expert is dead. You are human. Don’t let the fear of making a mistake hold you back. If you mess up, admit it and fix it. But the most important thing for you to do is keep moving forward. Do this and you will become more successful as each day passes by. Social media requires “Real” people; not phonies trying desperately to cover up their mistakes.
