It is important as an individual, and as a business, that you learn how to use video for your social media marketing. Video will be a large part of business marketing efforts in 2015. Here’s a video I created to help my Halifax social media workshop participants get started.

Tips to help you get started with creating videos:

  • Use your smart phone to start creating videos. Get familiar with the settings and how to change forward and rear facing cameras.
  • Take some videos with the intention of not sharing them. This will help you get used to how videos are created.
  • You probably will not like how you look or sound. This is natural. We all sound different. And we all have a certain image of how we look. To get over this, we need to be more concerned with getting the information out than how we look and sound.
  • If you have an iPhone, look at iMovie to help you in the video editing process. Android will have something similar to use. Find a program or app that will make things easier.
  • Always look at the background you are using in your video. Try to make the video as interesting as possible by using great backgrounds and locations to shot your video.
  • Use props where possible to add extra value in your video.
  • Don’t talk fast. Relax and talk slowly. No one will know that you are forcing yourself to talk slower.
  • Having problems with “Um”? Take a breath at the end of each sentence and you will not be able to go “Um”.

There is so much more I could share, but let’s have you focus on a few things at first. More can come later.

Here’s a fun video I created with my social media workshop participants in Halifax to get them going:

So here’s to a great day of business out there. Get those videos rolling and learn how to contribute your videos in the future to the Internet of Everything.
