If you can drive a lot traffic to your blog or website, and no one stays, your efforts are all in vain. You have to have good content there to make sure that people don’t bounce away. This is an important consideration when you start driving traffic.

It’s one thing to drive a lot of traffic to your web site or blog; it’s another thing to keep that traffic. This is an important consideration when you are learning how to drive traffic. It’s a waste of your time to drive traffic to a place that does not have great content. Great strategies can be undermined by poor content. And what’s even worse, people will tell others about your poor content.

So how do you know if you have good content? One statistical way to know for sure is to add Google Analytics to your website or blog; and then check the “Bounce” rate. Bounce rate is measured from 1 to 100. 100 is the worst, and 1 is the best. You want to see a low bounce number.

A high bounce rate can also tell you that people are not finding what they are looking for when they click your link. You will have to evaluate your content if the bounce rate is too high.

Here is a screen shot from Google Analytics showing my bounce rate for this blog:

Google Analytics bounce rate

My blog has a bounce rate of 9.47% which means that most people are staying and reading the content. Now my website, well that’s another matter. That’s a work in progress. Right now, my major target destination is my blog. That’s where I want to direct most of my traffic. At this point, I need to grow my blog following. That will come as I continue to drive traffic to it.

So in your process of learning how to drive traffic, remember that a good final destination is an import part of the process. Why drive traffic to poor content? Make sure visitors have a good reason to stay when they click on your links.
