Last Monday I set up a business in Advocate Harbour on a Facebook Page, and with in a few days, that Facebook Page had 74 “Likers”… and growing. How did this happen?

Advocate Harbour Country Ritestop

As I traveled to Advocate Harbour from Truro, Nova Scotia, I noticed that the people were very friendly. Now I am a friendly person, but these folks in Advocate Harbour are real friendly. My arm was getting sore from waving. And when they greet you, their friendliness comes through… big time. Advocate Harbour is a great spot with super friendly people.

I met with the owners of the Advocate Country Store Ritestop and began to get a feel for the area. We took lots of pictures so we would have lots to put on the Facebook Page. As we talked about what we should do, it became very clear that we needed to not only promote the business, but also promote the area. The owners I worked with had great business insight.

I shared a few tips with one the owners to help the them get started. I knew from her friendliness, that she would take to the Facebook Page and produce great results. I checked the Facebook Page Sunday night and it had 85 “Likers” so far. Many Facebook Pages struggle to get even to this point. Here’s a few thoughts on why I believe the Page was successful so far:

  1. The owners are very friendly and are well respected in the community. When community members found out the business was on Facebook, they wanted to connect.
  2. The owners created and maintained conversations on the Page. Conversations translate to feet in the business.
  3. The owners displayed a Facebook sign in the store and talked with the customers about the Facebook Page. They were proactive in promoting the Page.
  4. The owners shared the Facebook Page with their friends in a real genuine way.
  5. The owners adopted a strategic policy of promoting the area ; and not just the business. People in the community really liked this.

We will be working more on the Facebook Page today. So far we have seen above average performance. Many are already commenting on the Page and sharing on how they like what the business does: people saying good things about the business. They put up a picture or bacon and eggs, and people noticed. They came and asked about breakfast at the Ritestop.

So what’s our walk away for today: be friendly and create lots of conversations on the Page. These conversations help increase your Page visibility in New Feeds as well. Being a friendly person in the community also helps. It would be a great idea to make your Page useful. The Advocate Country Store Ritestop Page is doing just that. People are asking about the menu and they are even adding suggestions.

So please drop by the Facebook Page for a look. It might give you some ideas for your business.
