You have clicked a link and all hell breaks loose on your social media account. You just unleashed a Facebook virus that sends a similar link to all your friends. It can happen. Once it’s done, it’s gone. but what can you do next that will make a difference moving forward?

First thing you have to do is log in and change your Facebook password. Once you change your Facebook password, you might want to enable a two-step verification log in process that involves you typing in a six digit number that comes via text. Without your phone, no one can log in to your Facebook account. It makes more work for you when you log in, but it will help keep you safer as far as account hacks go. (If you cannot log in, use the help feature on Facebook via a friends account and search using words “Account hacked, cannot log in” – you will see links to help – If you can make it to the help menu, you will find a way to get your account back).

Secondly, you want to respond to your friends and let them know that they are to delete your post that you sent out. By no means are they to click on the blue hyperlink that comes with the post. Apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused them. Remind them that you will be there for them when it’s their turn.

Lastly, make sure you learn from this and be diligent in the future. If you use Facebook for business, your friends will get very ignored with you if you do this over and over again. Be gracious to others as well when it happens to them.

Stay safe out there. Watch what links you click on.
