For my Halifax social media clients, it’s always a good idea to monitor your social media stream. When you get a troll knocking at your social media door, you need to know what to do. Here’s some tips on what to do next.

What would you do if you saw these tweets?

Social Media Cyber Bully

Social Media Cyber Bully

Extent of visibility on these tweets as follows:

  1. First tweet was seen by person you sent it, everyone “@” mentioned in the tweet and because the hashtag #4JeffBrown was used, everyone who was monitoring that hashtag, and the trolls followers. If I reply to this tweet, I will expose this tweet to all my follows because it will go on my Profile stream. If one can ignore the troll, it is always best. They don’t deserve our time nor our energy.
  2. The second tweet was seen by me because I was “@” replied to. It was also seen by all the troll and his followers as well. Not a big audience. Again, I will not give this tweet any more visibility by replying to it.

So what is our walk away. Let these tweets flow down the river and they will be gone. Let the hate go down the river. Keep on being your good old positive self and keep making a positive difference on Twitter. Haters have to hate. Let them go hate all by themselves.

Make sure you monitor your name and the name of your business. You want to know what others are saying about you; good and bad. Set up search columns in Hootsuite to do it.

Now if it gets serious enough, you can have Twitter deal with it by reporting the account. If it gets real bad, do not hesitate to take screen shots and report it to the police. Yes, you can do that. This does not happen much at all. But if you do have any questions, please ask me and I will see what I can do to help.

Do your best to make great business happen this week. I remember a saying from John Allan Cameron…”noli nothi te demittant tere” (Don’t let the bastards grind you down).

Here’s to a successful week of business and social media in Halifax and beyond.
